Objective: Citation analysis is a useful tool for assessing the scientific impact of journals and authors, which uses citation rates to evaluate research performance. In this regard, the present study aimed to determine the research status of researchers at Abadan University of Medical Sciences through citation analysis and authorship characteristics of articles published in Scopus and determining their subject areas based on NLM classification.
Methods: The present study was conducted with a scientometric approach. The population studied in this study is 148 articles attributed to Abadan University of Medical Sciences that were published in Scopus in 2023. Cited information carriers, high-producing authors and journals, highly cited articles, and participating countries are among the items studied in this study.
Results: A large volume of articles were published in English. Farshid Ghanbari was named the most prolific author and the Department of Basic Sciences was named the most prolific teaching department. The United States ranked first among the countries participating in the production of articles. Among the NLM classification categories, the WA subject area of public health was named the most prolific subject area.
Conclusion: The research status of researchers at Abadan University of Medical Sciences was in a relatively good position in 2023, but this situation can be improved and promoted by making the necessary plans by relevant policymakers.
