Introduction: Compared to the current medicines, Persian medicine has adopted a different approach to treatment and is accompanied with different types of clinical data and numerous treatment methods. Development of Persian Medicine Information System (PMIS) would significantly contribute to the collection, organization, processing and reporting of Persian medicine data. The main objective of this study is to design of conceptual model of Persian Medicine Information System.
Methods: This developmental-applied study was conducted in three distinct steps. Firstly, the characteristics of traditional medicine information system that are being used in other countries were investigated via systematic literature review. In the second stage, a total of 29 specialists and pharmacists of Persian medicine were purposefully interviewed to identify the status quo of the Persian medicine information management. In the third stage, the conceptual model was depicted using ArgoUML 0.34 software and validated by experts.
Results: According to the results elicited from the systematic review, a total of 26 relevant papers in the time interval of 2000-2024 were identified. Then, using the interview data, the status quo of the Persian medicine information management was classified as 11 axes. In the third stage, the conceptual model of the Persian medicine information system was designed and validated.
Conclusion: Despite the diversity and breadth of data elements in the care system of Persian medicine, designing a conceptual model to create the Persian medicine information system can be very effective in creating a prototype for the efficient integrative national electronic record.
